Lafayette - A memorial service for Barbara Ann Nelson Weaver will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 2:00 PM at David Funeral Home in Lafayette. Family and friends will begin gathering at 1:00 PM until time of services. Barbara was called home on April 8, 2010, after seventy-five years of devoted service to family, friends, and all manner of strays. Mrs. Weaver never met a stranger. She will be remembered for her hospitality and her baking. She was everyones mother and grandmother. She adopted strays from a very young age and supported the work of animal shelters everywhere. She worked with Acadiana Outreach Services, helping others in need. She was active with her Curves fitness group, and a lover of theater and music. Barbara Ann Nelson was born on February 4, 1935 to Lawrence Archie Dutch Nelson and Mable Thelma Bay Nelson of Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Nelsons soon settled in Hobbs, New Mexico, and her early life was dedicated to the pursuit of music. Mrs. Weaver possessed perfect pitch and sang operettas in her teens. She played piano, French horn, and several other instruments. Indomitable in spite of her tiny size, Mrs. Weavers senior class nicknamed her the Gremlin. After high school, Barbara married Benjamin F. Weaver. The two of them traveled with his work, and raised their children in New Mexico, California, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. The Weavers settled in Lafayette in 1979, where Barbara remained until her death. She is survived by her son, Tony Weaver, and daughter-in-law, Nolene Boos Weaver, of Boise, Idaho, her son, Brent Weaver, of Lafayette, her daughter, Reni Weaver McLemore, and son-in-law, James McLemore, of Simpsonville, South Carolina. Mrs. Weaver is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Marlowe Cohen and Juliet De Haven. She left behind two pets, Sassy the dog and Lil Bit the cat. Mrs. Weaver is preceded in death by her parents, both of her brothers, Jack Nelson of San Francisco, California, and William Nelson of Odessa, Texas, one brother-in-law, William Aufterheide of San Francisco, California, and one sister-in-law, Jackie Martin Nelson of Odessa, TX.
