Jeanerette " Funeral Services will be conducted for Mrs. Fisher E. Simmons, Jr., the former Nanine "Mrs. Nan" Brent Byrne, 85, on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 10:00AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Jody Simoneaux and Father Ed Degeyter officiating. Burial will be at The Grove on Avery Island, La, following a Mass. Visitation will be Monday, April 6, 2009 from 3:00PM until 9:00PM with a Rosary being prayed at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume Tuesday from 8:00AM until service time at David Funeral Home in Jeanerette. A native of New Orleans, La. and a resident of Jeanerette, La. Mrs. Simmons died on April 3, 2009 in a New Iberia hospital. Mrs. Simmons was a graduate of Sophie Newcomb College, and a member of Alpha Omega Phi Sorority, and the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Louisiana serving as the President of the Louisiana Chapter from 1971 to 1975 Mrs. Nan was preceded in death by her husband, Fisher E. Simmons, Jr., her son Stephen Decatur Simmons, her brother Walter Cameron Byrne, Jr., and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cameron Byrne. Survivors include her sister Rosary Byrne of New Orleans, La, her children: Edward F. Simmons of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Nanine S. dAquin, Polly S. Maddox, Anthony A. Simmons, Leigh B. Simmons all of Avery Island, La, Cameron B. Simmons of Jeanerette, La and Christopher F. Simmons of Kenner, La., 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be: Read Simmons, Brent Simmons, John Simmons, Kent Maddox, Fisher Maddox, Cameron Simmons, Jr. and William Schoen.
