Richard Lawrence Metz

A Memorial Mass will be conducted for Richard Lawrence Metz, Age 82, at 11:00AM, Saturday, October 2, 2010 at David Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Oneugbe officiating. A gathering of friends and family will take place at the chapel in David Funeral Home Saturday from 10:00AM until the time of the Mass. Mr. Metz has chosen to donate his body to science. A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Metz passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 7:15PM at his residence. He served in the United States Merchant Marines and the United States Army, earning the rank of Sergeant First Class. He fought in the Korean War earning three purple hearts. Mr. Metz was employed with Texaco for 30 years. He was a member of the VFW and participated in the Senior Olympics for many years. He also served as PTA president at North Street Elementary school, and was a loving husband and father. Mr. Metz is survived by his wife, Olga Tootie Metz; son, Robert Metz and wife Kitty of New Iberia; daughters, Jennifer Landry of Lafayette and Pamela Metz of Virginia. He is also survived by grandchildren, Ryan Landry, Brett Landry, Sarah M. Trosclair and husband Timothy, and Steven Metz. Mr. Metz was preceded in death by his father Albert Metz and mother Alphonsine Migues Metz; and siblings Jay Metz, Claudia Metz, Fredrick Metz, Louis Metz, Hazel Metz Hudson, and Gertrude Metz Callaway.
