Mr. Migues passed away Thursday June 25, 2009 at 5:23 PM in a New Iberia Hospital. Mr. Migues was fondly known as Mig . He was a native of Iberia Parish and a resident of New Iberia.
He is survived by one son: Kerry Migues and his wife Pamela of Youngsville; one daughter Sharon Migues Lester and her husband Russell of Amite, La.; five grandchildren Kristi Mendoza Breaux and her husband Mallory of New Iberia, Kevin Mendoza of Lafayette, Nicole Migues Romero and her husband Trent of Houston, Tx., Michelle Migues of Lafayette and Emily Migues of Youngsville and two great-grandchildren, Garritt Michael Romero of Houston, Tx., and Ian Breaux of New Iberia.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Hebert Migues; parents, Elias Migues and Eulalie Migues; brother Carol Migues; and sister Sue Migues.
Mr. Migues was inducted into the U.S. Air Force at Camp Shelby Mississippi on December 16, 1941 and proudly served 4 years. His tour of duty was in the European Theater of Operation in England. He became a Tech Sergeant Radar Operator and Spare Gunner on the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress with the U.S. 8th Air Force 3rd Headquarters Bombing Crew working World Intelligence. The B-17 was a World War II bomber used primarily in Europe. B-17s from the 8th Air Force participated in countless daytime missions from bases in England. These missions often lasted for more than eight hours and struck at targets deep within enemy territory. Because of their long-range capability, formations of B-17s often flew into battle with no fighter escort relying on their own defense capabilities. These missions often resulted in many aircraft loses. Mr.Migues B-17 flew 18 missions over Germany. On his 6th mission his aircraft was hit with enemy fire but fighter planes managed to escort the wounded aircraft to a safe landing in France.
He began his long automobile career with New Iberia Auto Company under the guidance of Mr. Mac-Owen McMahon, Sr. when Chevrolet-- was the All American Car . He later worked for Leblanc and Broussard. In his retirement years he worked as Assistant Manager at Holy Family Cemetery.
Mr. Migues was raised on Avery Island and often reminisced about his boyhood days on the island . He raised a backyard garden and took great pride in cultivating many vegetables, which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends. He would anxiously anticipate the opening of shrimp season and couldnt wait to trawl for crabs and shrimp in Vermillion Bay with his best friend Whitey Hebert. He enjoyed listening and dancing to the Big Band tunes of Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey. He enjoyed watching the Gillette Friday Night Fights, listening to LSU football on Saturday nights as it was broadcasted from Tiger Stadium on KANE Radio and watching Saints football on Sunday afternoons. He loved his dog Peppy. He was a wonderful caregiver to his wife of 60 years when she became ill.
The family would like to offer a special debt of gratitude to Donald Poche who unselfishly took care of many of Mr. Miguess needs.
Pallbearers will be Donald Poche, Jay Garzortto, Kevin Mendoza, Trent Romero, Kerry Migues, and Russell Lester.
