Andrew "Big John" Menard

New Iberia- Funeral services will be conducted for Andrew Big John Menard, age 73, Friday, May 14, 2010 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau at 10:00AM with Fr. Barry Crochet officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home of New Iberia on Thursday, May 12, 2010 from 2:00PM until 10:00PM with a recitation of a Rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume Friday, May 14, 2010 from 8:00AM until the time of service.

A native of Erath and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Menard died Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 9:58PM at his home following a long illness.

Mr. Menard graduated from Erath High School in 1957. He was class president in 1955, a member of the FFA and second vice president in 1957. He played on the football, basketball, baseball, track and Gabriel teams. His motto was the world looks easy to conquer from a height .

Mr. Menard joined the Army in 1958. He was stationed in Germany for some of his service. He received honorable discharge in 1964. He acquired the rank of Sergeant E5. He was very proud to serve his country. Mr. Menard was employed by Domtar Salt Mine for 30 years. He assisted in drilling the mine shaft and worked his way up to Production Superintendant. He was dedicated and highly respected in the mining field. He was an avid New Orleans Saints Fan.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Evelyn Romero Menard of Coteau; his sons, Kurt J. Menard and wife Lynn of New Iberia; and Brian J. Menard and wife Ashley of New Iberia; his daughters, Bonnie Areceneaux and husband Michael of Coteau; and Linda Poe and husband Tim of Coteau; his grandchildren, Austin and Dustin Menard, Helen, Mary and Jacob Poe, Andrew and Emma Menard and Kyle Arceneaux.

Mr. Menard was preceded in death by his parents, Gaspard Menard and Helen Delahoussaye Menard, and an infant brother, LeRoy Menard.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kurt Menard, Brian Menard, Tim Poe, Mike Arceneaux, Austin Menard and Andrew Menard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Presley Romero, Preston Romero, Walter Romero and Howard Romero.
