Joseph Nizeph Gary

Jeanerette- Funeral services will be conducted for Joseph N. Papa Joe Gary, age 81, Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 11:00am at David Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in St. Johns Cemetery. Visitation will begin Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm with a recitation of a rosary at 7:00pm. Visitation will resume Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from 8:00am until the service.

A native and resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Gary died Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 2:20PM in a local hospital. Mr. Gary owned and managed Joes Quick Shop in Jeanerette, after his retirement from the business; he became a drop carrier for the Daily Iberian for over 10 years. Papa Joe as he was affectionately called by his family, was a dedicated hard worker, and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Gary is survived by his wife of 31 years, Elnora Guillotte Gary of Jeanerette; his children, Wallace Gary of Rayne; Darlene Owens and husband Steve of Jeanerette; Susanne Romero and companion Lawrence, Michael Gary and wife Bonnie and Wilfred Gary and companion Angela, all of New Iberia; his step-children, Glenna Parria and husband Michael and Henry Curtis and companion Angela, all of Jeanerette; Michael Curtis and wife Margaret of New Iberia; Julian Curtis, Juella Owens and husband Hilton, all of Jeanerette; Vicki Romero and companion Melvin of Jennings; Carl Curtis of Kissimmee, FL; and Karissa Jones of Jeanerette; brothers, Wilson Gary and wife Dee of New Iberia; Vinton Gary and wife Juanita of Erath; and Leonie Gary and wife Irene; sisters, Nola Touchet of Broussard; and Shirley Segura and husband Willis of New Iberia; 13 grandchildren, 28 step-grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 36 step-great grandchildren.

Mr. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Ozile Romero Gary, son, William Gary, brother, Wilfred Gary, 4 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great grandchild.

Serving as pallbearers will be Wilfred Gary, Steve Owens, Jr., Hilton Owens, Jr., Tellerson Curtis, Jarrot Jones and Glenn Parria.
