Lafayette " A Memorial Mass for Mr. James Dowling Van Etten, 81, will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at St. John Berchmans Church in Cankton with Father Henry Broussard officiating. Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Saturday from 9:00AM until service time at 11:00AM in the church at 522 Main Street, Cankton, LA 70584. A reception will follow the services at Mrs. Yvettes home. A native of Hudson, New York and resident of Lafayette, Mr. Van Etten passed away at 12:50PM on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at his residence. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 37 and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his loving wife, Yvette LaCroix Van Etten of Lafayette; his children, Gisele Van Etten Hill Perry and husband Gilles of Kingston, Ontario, James M. Van Etten of Lafayette and Michael R. Van Etten and wife Gay of Youngsville; six grandchildren, Danielle Hill Fulmer and husband Brandon, Gretchen Hill, Blake Hill, Cole Perry, Macky Ray Fuselier and Brooke Schexnayder; two great-grandchildren; one sister and one brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Anna Dowling Van Etten; his granddaughter, Caitlyn Grace Van Etten-Simmon; one brother and two sisters. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Van Ettens name to American Legion Post 37, P.O. Box 558, Bellows Falls, VT 05101, for ailing post members.
