Youngsville - A Gathering of Family and Friends for Clifford Francis Guidry, 92, will be held at David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Monday, January 31, 2011 from 4:30PM until 8:30PM. Another Gathering of Family and friends will begin at 9:30 AM Wednesday February 2, 2011 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 1005 Williams Ave, Houma LA; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, with entombment to follow services at St. Francis De Sales # 2 Cemetery also in Houma. Mr. Clifford Francis Guidry was a native of Houma, LA and a resident of Youngsville. He was a proud American and a true patriot who served his country in World War II with the 355th Infantry Regiment in the European Theatre of Operations as a Section Leader. He supervised sixteen men in setting up, aiming and firing a 60mm mortar. He was also responsible for seeing that the weapons were properly elevated and that ammunition was on ready for loading; gave the order to fire and was also fully responsible for coordination and deployment of his crew. At the time of his discharge Mr. Clifford had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Even throughout the years after the war his patriotism shined on and his love for his country shined through. He loved flying the American Flag, football and spending time with his family; was a member of VFW Post No. 3700 in Houma; American Legion Post No. 0031 and also a member of the Woodmen of the World. Most recently, Mr. Clifford was honored by Gov. Bobby Jindal, by receiving the State of Louisiana United States Armed Forces Metal. Prior to the war, and for a time after he was employed by the Texas Company and then went into business for himself and was a successful business man before his retirement. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lenora Kelly Guidry; two daughters, Paulette G. Landry and her husband Steve of Lafayette and Pamela G. Rhodes and her husband Peter of Houma; one sister, Mary McKey of Houma; five grandchildren, Amy Landry of Youngsville, Jason Landry and his wife, Ginny of Grapevine, TX, Jennifer Romero and her husband Ryan of Youngsville, Jacob Rhodes and his wife Danielle of Houma and Jodi Dean and her husband, Tommy of Youngsville and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Pamelia Rhodes Guidry; brother, Ojeeg Flit Guidry; sisters, Mildred Guidry, Doris Martin and Marjorie Kappel. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Landry, Peter Rhodes, Jacob Rhodes, Jason Landry, Ryan Romero and Tommy Dean. Honorary pallbearer will be Ray Melancon. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Cliffords caretaker, Miss Linda Stelly; the staffs of Hospice of Acadiana; Louisiana Oncology and Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center for their loving and tender care during Mr. Cliffords illness.
