Odette Martin Rivette

Jeanerette " Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Ferdinand Rivette, the former Odette Martin, 97, on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Langlois, Fr. Connley Bertrand and Deacon Theo Landry officiating. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and resume on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at 8:00 AM until services. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Friday at 6:30 PM.

A native of Jeanerette and a resident of Mobile, AL, Mrs. Rivette died on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 at 8:10 AM at Sacred Heart Nursing Home in Mobile, AL. She was a member of the Catholic Faith. She was clothed in the Habit of the Secular Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and received the large Scapular Order July 19, 1964. Odette was an active member of the Ladies Altar Society in Jeanerette for many years. She also co-founded the Rosary Group in 1968 and in 1971 she, along with Fr. Connelly Bertrand, started the Jeanerette Chapter of the Come Lord Jesus Group. Odettes name in Secular Order of Carmel was Sister Marie of St. Elias. As a Secular Carmelite, Odette lived the prophetic dimension of Carmel by Promoting Gods law of charity and truth among those with whom she lived. Odette made vows of Obedience and Chastity on July 16, 1981.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ferdinand Rivette; her parents, Jacque and Eve Boudreaux Martin; her brothers, Lionel Martin, Sr. and Leonard Martin; her ½ brother, Deluke Jack Martin and her sister, Mrs. Louis (Emily) Breaux.

Odette had no children but is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
