Abbeville " Funeral Services for Mr. Roy Allen Kendrick, 87, will be held at 1:00PM on Monday, March 28, 2011 at Abbeville United Methodist Church with Rev. John Vining officiating. Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home of Abbeville on Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM and on Monday from 9:00AM until 11:00AM. Interment will be held at St. Paul Cemetery. Mr. Kendrick passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Eastridge Nursing Home in Abbeville. He was born in Healdton, OK on March 18, 1924 to Robert and Martha Kendrick. Roy graduated from Pleasanton High School in Pleasanton, Texas in 1942. Along with three brothers, he entered into military service and served as a proud member of the U.S. Army during World War II. The 91st Division served under General George Patton in Italy and was called the Powder Ridge Division. Roy earned the Soldiers Medal for saving two officers lives during a flood in Sasseleone, Italy. After the war ended, he moved back to Pleasanton and owned/operated a Gulf Oil Filling Station for five years. In 1949 he married Marinell Miller, also of Pleasanton. He went to work for Pure Oil and moved to Abbeville in 1954. Retired from Union Oil, he enjoyed gardening and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Kendrick was an avid fisherman and could always be counted on to take relatives fishing or to fry up a batch of his catfish at any time. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marinell Kendrick; his daughters, Linda and her husband, Danny Richard of Intracoastal City and Karen and her husband, Chris Claunch of Crosby, Texas; granddaughters, Erica and Chuck Cabrol, Casie and Bobby Gaudet, Lauri Duhon, and Lisa and Glenn LeBouef, all of Abbeville; grandsons, Corey Claunch of Round Rock, Texas, Kevin and Kelley Claunch of Lexington, Kentucky, and Kyle Claunch of College Station, Texas. PawPaw will be greatly missed by his great-grandchildren as well " Ross and Madeline Gaudet, Brant, Kristin and Chase Cabrol, Gavin Tucker and Aiden LeBouef. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Martha Kendrick; his sister, Maye Whitley of Dallas, Texas; and his brother, Marvin Kendrick of New Braunfels, Texas. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chuck Cabrol, Bobby Gaudet, Corey Claunch, Kevin Claunch, Kyle Claunch and great-grandson, Ross Gaudet. Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Suire and Glenn LeBouef. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the wonderful staff at Eastridge Nursing Home for their loving and respectful care of Mr. Kendrick. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Parkinsons Foundation or Hospice of Acadiana.
