Broussard " A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Steve Bernard, 63, will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Fabre officiating. Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 10:00AM until 9:00AM with a recitation of the rosary at 6:30PM. Visitation will resume on Monday, June 13, 2011 from 8:00AM until the time of the services. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Mr. Bernard a native and resident of Broussard died at 10:35AM on Friday, June 10, 2011 at a Lafayette General Medical Center. Steve proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the VFW. He was employed with the Lafayette Parish Registrar of Voters Office for over 33 Years, and was the Registrar of Voters from 1987 until he retired. He was a founding member of the Broussard Auxiliary Police officers, and was a past member of Broussard Volunteer Fire Dept. Steve was an avid poker player and will be great missed by those he considered family that played poker with him at Shortys at Cypress Bayou Casino. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Nancy Delahoussaye Bernard of Broussard; a sister, Sandra B. Cormier and her husband Bryant of Broussard; and a brother in law, Michael Delahoussaye and his wife Angie of Coteau. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aurelie P. Bernard, Jr. and Jeanette Girouard Bernard. Serving as pallbearers will be Bryant Cormier, Michael Delahoussaye, Dana Polo Abshire, Jade Bernard, Anthony Bernard, and John Moreau. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mikal Bernard and Ethan Abshire. Steves family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana, the Oncology Staff of Lafayette General Medical Center, the staff of Cancer Center of Acadiana at Lafayette General Medical Center, and a special thanks to Dr. Michael Cain for their care and compassion for Steve.
