Lafayette- Funeral Services for Medwyn Dennis Garbarino, 88, will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, June 3, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Broussard with the Reverends Albert Langley and Weldon Moak officiating. Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM and will resume at 10:00AM on Friday, June 3, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Broussard until service time. Interment will follow in Liberty Cemetery in Elton. Born in Elton on November 7, 1922, and a resident of Lafayette for the past 33 years, Rev. Garbarino went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Camelot of Broussard. Med was a dedicated Christian servant who surrendered his life to ministry. He graduated from Dallas Bible Institute in 1949 and from Baylor University in 1955. He was a mission pastor for the Louisiana Baptist Convention, serving in Grand Isle (1956 " 1960), Reddell (1960 -1972) and Washington, Louisiana (1972 " 1977). He worked for the City of Lafayette beginning in 1978 and retired in 1989. After retirement, he worked with the Campers on Mission and served his churches, Northside Baptist (1977-1985) and First Baptist of Broussard (1985 - 2011). Med was a jack of many trades: farming, carpentry, mechanics, biblical scholar, and school teacher (St. Landry and Vermilion Parishes). He is survived by his children, Daniel Garbarino, Sr. and his wife Pamela of Ruston, Joy Regan and her husband Edwin of West Monroe, Richard Garbarino and his wife Celeste of Houston and Joseph Garbarino, Sr. and his wife Leigh of Lafayette; grandchildren, Daniel Garbarino, Jr., Ryan Kilpatrick, Kristin Stuart, Ross Garbarino, Jonathan Regan, Kerry Regan, Jeffrey Regan, Nicholas Garbarino, Andrew Garbarino, Katherine Garbarino, Joseph Garbarino, Jr., Bennett Garbarino, Anne-Marie Garbarino, John Mark Garbarino, Thomas Garbarino and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Wilma Jacobs of Atlanta and Ruth Horton of Tampa; and his brother, Bruce Garbarino, of Elton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Lila Shipp Garbarino (who died on November 30, 2010); by his parents, Bertrand Francis Garbarino and Lezina Bertrand Garbarino, by one daughter, Martha Lee Garbarino, and by his sisters Audrey Dougherty, Melba Hutchinson and Loyce Steiner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering c/o First Baptist Church, 210 South Morgan Ave., Broussard, LA 70518.
