New Iberia " Funeral services will be conducted for Johnnie W. Cason, 89, on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Bullock officiating. Interment will follow in Beau Pre Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1982 of New Iberia.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and resume on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at 8:00 AM until services.

A native of Springhill and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Cason passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013, at 8:40 PM at his residence.

Mr. Cason came to New Iberia as the Head Basketball Coach at New Iberia Senior High School in 1953 until 1969 where he was nicknamed Coach Chief Cason . He then went as Head Basketball Coach at St. Martinville High School, Cecilia High School and Carencro High School. He also coached Little League and Sheriff League Baseball for 8 years.

He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Air Force with the Rank of Lieutenant and a B17 Pilot where he flew missions over Romania Oil Fields. He was a Purple Heart Recipient.

He also worked with the Iberia Parish Sheriff Department, Wells Fargo and the Louisiana Department of Corrections.

He was the owner of Chief Cason Parkview Exxon Service Station and Yamaha Cycle Center.

He is survived by his son, John L. Cason and his wife Theresa of New Iberia; his daughter, Candy McCammon of Baton Rouge; his grandchildren, Jessica Cason Landry and her husband Ricky, Casey Cason Maturin and her husband Jared all of New Iberia, Lindsay Cason Hallam and her husband John of Perdido Key, FL and Trey McCammon of Baton Rouge; his great grandchildren, Brittain Bourque, Blake Bourque, Taylor Bernard, Jett Maturin all of New Iberia, Adalee Hallam, Kenzie Hallam and Cami Jayne Hallam all of Perdido Key, FL and his pet dog, Beau .

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jayne Stewart Cason; his parents, John Gant Cason and Verbalee Webb Cason; his sister, Margaret Cason Pearson and his half-sister, Odessa Wynn.

Pallbearers will be Trey McCammon, John Hallam, Jared Maturin, Ricky Landry, Brittain Bourque, Blake Bourque.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jett Maturin.

The family would like to thank his Caregiver, Christine Dartez for the care given to Mr. Cason.
