Lawrence Joseph Arton

Jeanerette- Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Lawrence Arton, age 88, Tuesday September 4, 2012 at 10:00AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. Jody Simoneaux officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery. Visitation will begin Monday September 3, 2012 at 4:00PM until 9:00PM with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume Tuesday September 4, 2012 at 8:00AM until service time.

A native and lifelong resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Arton died Saturday September 1, 2012 at 8:06PM at Iberia Medical Center. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served in WWII Pacific Theatre. Mr. Arton was a carpenter by trade, an avid golfer and he loved to putter around in his shop.

Mr. Arton is survived by his sons, Larry Joseph Arton of Jeanerette; Terry John Arton and wife LouJuanna of Jeanerette and Robert Paul Arton and wife Terrance of Broussard; brother Manuel Arton of Wilmington, CA; grandchildren, Yvonne Jacobs and husband George of Colorado Springs, CO; Art Arton and wife Beth of New Iberia and Steven Arton and wife Amanda of Broussard; great-grandchildren, Noah and Ava Arton and Randolph Jacobs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Thibodeaux Arton; parents, Joseph and Philomene Allemand Arton; daughter-in-law, Judy Arton; sisters, Laura Silhevy and Leonare Martin; brothers, Leonard Black Arton, Adonis Arton, Sr., Lionel Arton, Sr. Dennis Arton, Sr., John, Daniel, Ulysses and Lester Arton.

Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Larry, Terry, Robert, Steven, Art Arton and George Jacobs.

The family would like to thank the staff of Iberia Medical Center and Heart of Hospice, for the care and concern they showed Mr. Arton during his brief illness. Everyone was very compassionate and helpful to him and his family members.
