Jeanerette -Funeral Services will be conducted for Mrs. Diego Ortega, Sr the former Amelia Tupe Hebert, Age 87, at 11:00AM Wednesday October 24, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Jody Simoneaux officiating. Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday October 23, 2012 from 5:00PM until 9:00PM with a Rosary being prayed at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume Wednesday from 8:00AM until service time. Musical selections for the service will be sung by her granddaughters, Jana Courtois and Jessica Ortega. Readers will be Kay Bienvenu and Elizabeth Billeaudeau. A native of Patterson and longtime resident of Jeanerette Mrs. Ortega died Monday October 22, 2012 at 6:47AM at Maison Teche Nursing Home in Jeanerette. Fondly known as Tupe by her family and friends, she and her husband owned and operated Diegos service station in Jeanerette. She retired from Jeanerette Mills after many years of service. She loved reading, doing Word Search and fighting for beads at the Mardi Gras parades. She held the title of Mardi Gras Queen at Maison Teche in 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Diego Ortega, Sr., her parents Elaine D. Hebert & Laodice Hebert., her brother Emile Toby Hebert, and sisters Enola H. Aucoin and Matilda H. Guidry. She is survived by her children, Delores Blair and her husband, Marion of Lafayette, Diego Ortega Jr. and his wife Rosie of New Iberia, Victor Ortega of New Iberia, Barbara Legge and her husband Ned of Lydia, Charlene Brown of Denham Springs and Carla Sapienza and her husband, Paul of New Iberia. Her grandchildren Kay Bienvenu (Stephen), Keith Blair, Koury Ortega , Elaina Champagne (Buck) Hailey Hebert (Seth) Jessica Ortega and her fianc, Garrett Marceaux, Liz Billeaudeau (David), Ami Ortega, Jana Courtois (Coby) David Meche, Ryan Meche (Tyra), Elly Rappold (Kyle) , Richie Howard (Rachel), Danae Brown, Nicholas, Sarah Amelia, and Mia Sapienza. Her great grandchildren Ethan, Evan, London, Coryn, Autumn, Abigail, Claire, Deuce, Cameron, Chandler, Emma Claire, Davi, MacKenzie, Josh, Kaine, Luke and Jake. Pallbearers will be Keith Blair, David and Ryan Meche, Richard Howard Jr., Koury Ortega and Nicholas Sapienza.
