Youngsville " A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Samuel F. Kennedy, Sr., 82, will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at St. Anne Catholic Church with Fr. Jason Mouton and Deacon James Davidson officiating. Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 11:00AM until 9:00PM with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will resume at St. Anne Catholic Church on Thursday, June 14, 2012 from 10:00AM until the time of the services. Interment will follow at St. Anne Mausoleum. A native of Oil City, LA and a resident of Youngsville Mr. Kennedy died at 11:32PM on Monday, June 11, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Sam enlisted in the Air Force in 1946. He extended one year into the Korean Conflict. After his discharge in 1951 he was employed by Western Electric and retired in 1983 with 32 years of service. He is presently a member of the American Legion Post #0279 in Erath. He is also a present member of the 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Fernand Geaux Assembly. He was past Faithful Navigator. He was currently a member of the St. Annes Council Knights of Columbus where he was Grand Knight. He was a member of the St. Anne Parish Church in Youngsville where he was past Parish Council President. He was also a team member of the RCIA and a past lector and presently serves as an Extraordinary Minister at St. Annes Catholic Church. He loved his God, his family and friends. Sam loved life and all people. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Della Hebert Kennedy of Youngsville; two sons, Sam F. Kennedy, Jr. and his wife Jackie of Youngsville and David Kennedy and his wife Catherine of Youngsville; two daughters, Brenda Richard and her husband Tom of Scott and Janet Silvas and her husband Ruben of Youngsville; three brothers, D.M Kennedy, Lamar Kennedy, and Harold Kennedy all of West Monroe; a sister, Lois Thompson of West Monroe; seven grandchildren, Lucinda Kennedy, Samuel Kennedy, III., Michael Silvas, Alison Kennedy, Aaron Kennedy, Adrien Kennedy, and Ashlyn Kennedy; and three great grandchildren, Jace Forestier, Sarra Al-Hamlan, and Hudson Silvas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Viola Darnell Kennedy; a brother, Clifford Kennedy; and three sisters, Mable Kennedy, Marteal Paquin, and Opel Cavin. Serving as pallbearers will be Sam Kennedy, Jr., Samuel Kennedy, III., David Kennedy, Adrien Kennedy, Aaron Kennedy, and Michael Silvas. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jace Forestier and Hudson Silvas. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana. David Funeral Home of Lafayette at 316 Youngsville Hwy (337)837-9887 will be handling the arrangements.
