Youngsville - A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday May 14, 2012, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard, for Philip J. Cancienne, Jr., 93, who passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at his residence. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church one hour prior to mass time. Following the funeral, interment will take place at Saint Joseph Cemetery Thibodaux Louisiana. He was born in Lockport, Louisiana in Lafourche Parish. He lived in Terrebonne Parish during his elementary and high school years. He attended LSU prior to volunteering for the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He served for three years, nine months in the states and in Italy. When he was discharged, he made his home in Thibodaux. He was employed as a dairy technician for many years until his retirement in 1985. In 2007, he and his wife of sixty-four years moved to Youngsville to be nearer their children. He was a devoted husband and father, and energetic and quiet-spoken person who helped many people in various ways. He was the beloved husband of Vivian Pontif Cancienne and father of Elizabeth Webre and husband Alfred Webre of Lafayette, Carol Cancienne and partner Irene Bruce of Broussard, and Philip III and wife Gloria of Youngsville, one grandson Nicholas Webre, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his second daughter Ellen Mary Cancienne, his parents Philip, Sr. and Annette Kerne Cancienne, his sisters Alma Bourgeois, Odette Naquin, and Elsie Behrhorst. He was a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus in Thibodaux and a former parishioner of Christ the Redeemer in Thibodeaux and now of St Annes Catholic Church in Youngsville. The family wants to express appreciation to all of the friends who prayed and supported us through this time. Special thanks to the Saint Joseph Hospice for their care.
