Alma Mouton Bessard

Alma M. Bessard was born September 6, 1932 to the late Elias Mouton, Sr. and Mary M. Hebert in Maurice, LA. She departed this life on Thursday December 13, 2012 in Louisiana Extended Care Hospital at Lafayette General Hospital.

Mrs. Alma, Aunt Alma, Maw Maw, Mama Alma, as she was affectionately known to all who knew her, loved children. She was a Mother, Grandmother and Aunt to everybody, every day, helping all along her way. She worked with kids in the schools; delighted in helping the elderly and driving them around; was also a member of the St. Theresa Ladies Altar Society, St. Paul Chapter # 3 Meritorious 4th Degree Ladies of Grace and Our Lady of Lourdes Court #77 Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary, where she served for over 50 years.

Mourning her passing yet cherishing the beautiful memories of her love and devotion are her husband of 59 years, Marion Bessard, Sr. of Abbeville, LA; her children, Peggy Bessard Wright and her husband Rev. Michael Wright of Abbeville, LA, Marion Bessard, Jr. and his wife Karla of Dallas, TX, Allen Bessard and his wife Lizz of Abbeville, LA, Orelia E. Bessard of Abbeville, LA, Anthony Bessard and his wife Jackie of Greensboro, NC, Michael Bessard and his wife Denise of Abbeville, LA, , Carl Bessard of Abbeville, LA, Preston Bessard and his wife Ingrid of Raleigh, NC and Andrea B. Spates and her husband Baylan of Abbeville, LA; her 25 grandchildren; her 26 great-grandchildren; her one great-great-grandchild; her brother, Elias Mouton, Jr. of Kaplan, LA; her sister Theresa Yeggins of Portland, OR and her special sister, Theresa Vallien of Natchitoches, LA; her sisters in law, Joyce Mouton of Beaumont,TX, Laura Belle Bessard of Abbeville, LA and Willie Pearl Bessard of Houston, TX; her brothers in law, Claude Bessard, Sr. of Abbeville, LA and Milton Bessard of Houston, TX as well as her godchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elias Mouton, Sr. and Mary M. Hebert; her son Ronald E. Bessard; her brother John Mouton and her sisters, Anna Lou Romero, Mary Ann Mouton and Beatrice Shillow.

Serving as pallbearers will be her sons, Marion Bessard, Jr., Allen Bessard, Anthony Bessard, Michael Bessard, Carl Bessard and Preston Bessard, Sr.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Elias Mouton, Jr., Joseph Mitchell, Andrew Vallien, Dereck Bernard, Baylan Spates, Rev. Michael Wright and Tyrone Dudley.

Mrs. Bessards family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to her caregivers and Andrea B. Spates and Laticia Landry.
