Youngsville - Audrey Major Dyer, 96, passed away Friday October 21, 2011. She was born June 15, 1915 in Livonia, La. a daughter of the late John Joseph Major and Katie Guerin Major. Mrs. Dyer was an alumnus of Louisiana Normal (Northwestern State University). After college, she taught for several years in a one room school house in Sherburne, La. She and her late husband, Hadley Dyer, owned and operated City Cleaners in Opelousas, La. beginning in 1940. After Mr. Dyers death in 1981, she continued to run the business until 1990. She then moved to Youngsville, where she became a member of St Annes Catholic Church. An avid fan of the Atlanta Braves for many years, she followed them right through this years season. She is survived by a daughter, Anita Dyer of Youngsville, and son John Dyer and his wife Charlotte of Broussard. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Elizabeth Seeger of Broussard and Jennifer Leggett of The Woodlands, Texas; and four great grandchildren, Emily Jane Seeger, John Lawrence Seeger, Harrison Clarke Leggett; James Hadley Leggett and sister, Vernice Major Lindsly. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Gary Major, Wage Major and a sister, Ruth Major White. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the SPCA and Ronald McDonald House. A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Dyer will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October, 28, 2011 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Youngsville with Rev. Jason Mouton officiating. Musical selections for the Mass will be performed by Francis LeBlanc. Readings will be offered by Jennifer Leggett and Jan Erin Faulk. Giftbearers will be Emily Jane Seeger and John Lawrence Seeger. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at David Funeral Home of Lafayette, 316 Youngsville Hwy. Lafayette, LA from 5:30 PM until 9:00 PM with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00PM and will resume at 8:00 AM on Friday, October 28, 2011 until just prior to service time. Interment will follow services in St. Anne Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Louis Leggett, Clarence Lindsly, Mark Major, Carl York, Bill Apperson, Rod Latiolais and Tom Vincent.
