A native and resident of New Iberia, Irene passed away peacefully on December 13, 2012 at her home in New Iberia surrounded by those she loved the most, her family. She was born on May 22, 1932 to George and Theresa Broussard. After graduating high school, Irene met and married Charles C. LeMaire. This glorious 49 year union produced six sons and one daughter. Although she enjoyed an active social life including supporting her husband throughout his career, her greatest joy came from raising her seven children. A day at the LeMaire home was a lesson in controlled chaos with Irene standing firmly at the helm. She had a heart of gold and never liked to leave anyone out of her circle of love. She made sure there was always plenty of food, laughter, noise and love at the LeMaire's.
Irene is survived by her sisters Theresa Louviere, Shirley Vidrines, Mary Ann (Maisey) Buteaux, her brothers Gerald (Nookie) Buteaux, and Louis (Pishy) Buteaux and wife Geraldine; her daughter Claire LeMaire McNabb and husband Buddy of Houma; her sons Garland LeMaire and wife Jessica, Todd LeMaire and wife Angela, all of New Iberia, George LeMaire and partner Matt Martin of New Orleans, Thomas LeMaire and wife Garnet of Lafayette, and Douglas LeMaire of New Orleans; Grandchildren Raegan, Lance, Brittany, Jeremy, Jason, Jennifer, Kaylyn, Jonathon, Aimee, Emily, Stephen, Hannah, Rachel, and Margaret LeMaire, Alister and Candace Romero, Jenni, Mike, and Zack McNabb; and 4 great grandchildren.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents George and Theresa Broussard, her stepfather, Felix Buteaux, her brother George LeMaire, Jr., her husband Charles LeMaire, and her son John Robert LeMaire.
Serving as pallbearers will be Claire McNabb, Garland LeMaire, Todd LeMaire, George LeMaire, Thomas LeMaire, and Douglas LeMaire.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Gesser and Cornell Louviere.
