James S. "Jimmy" Hebert

October 17, 1926 — January 4, 2013

New Iberia- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. James S. Jimmy Hebert, age 86, on Monday January 7, 2013 at 11:00AM at St. Peters Catholic Church with Father Charles Langlois to serve as the celebrant. Entombment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum. Visitation will begin on Sunday January 6, 2013 at 4:00PM and conclude at 9:00PM with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume on Monday from 8:00AM until service time.

Jimmy as he was affectionately known, was a United States Army Veteran having served during World War II. Mr. Jimmy was a devoted Catholic as a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, member and former president of the St. Peters Ushers for 50 years, member of the St. Peters Liturgical Committee and Vigil Committee, and was very proud in assisting in the construction of the nations first living Nativity crib at St. Peters in 1957, and constructing a new one in 1996. In 1966 Mr. Jimmy was awarded the Bishop Medal for Devoted Service. He was also a Past Grand Knight with Knights of Columbus Council 1208, president of the New Iberia Knights of Columbus Home Association, and a 4 th Degree member of the Msgr. Langlois Assembly.

He worked for Shell Oil Co. since 1947 and retired in February 1985 after 38 ½ years. Mr. Jimmy then began contract work for Shell Oil Co. and in August 1997 he was honored for outstanding service for Shell Oil Co. for 50 Years. He formed and was former president and vice president of the Shell Pension Club of New Iberia, and was a past member of the Iberia Parish School Board, as well as having a tax preparation and accounting service for 40 years.

Mr. Jimmy was instrumental in organizing the 50 year class reunion of N.I.H.S. Class of 1944. He was also a member and former president of the Ancient Order of Creole Gourmets. He enjoyed RV-ing and was a member of the Bayou Ramblers and Cruisin Cajuns, serving the board for 6 years. In his RV travels he visited all 50 states including Hawaii and Alaska, and also traveled to Canada, Mexico, and Italy. Mr. Jimmy was an avid LSU fan and enjoyed traveling to Baton Rouge in his RV to attend games.

Mr. Jimmy is survived by his daughters, Brenda Hebert and husband Adam, Bonita H. Morrogh and husband Ken; sons, Darrel Hebert and wife Mary, Gerald Hebert and wife Lori, and Keith Hebert all of New Iberia; grandchildren, Paul Gajan and wife Jennifer, Kimberly Rayner and husband Benny, Dwight DuBose and wife Theresa, Kevin Hebert and wife Tracy, Beau Hebert, and Danielle Hebert, great grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Ryan, Courtney, and Jackson Gajan, Lindsey and Zachary DuBose, and Khloe Hebert; one step great grandchild, Patrick Tainter, one great great grandchild, Addison McJimsey, sisters, Elmae H. Pesson, and Clara Jean H. Palmer and husband Charles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Miguez Hebert; second wife, Maudry Dubois Hebert; parents, Sidney and Julia H. Hebert; sisters, Julia H. Stevens, Ella Hebert, Marguerite Hebert, Maude A. Hebert, Annette H. Ladouceur, and Lucy H. Judice; brothers, Freddie Hebert, Derise Hebert, Michel Hebert, Sidney Hebert II, and Nelson Hebert.

Pallbearers will be Darrel, Keith, Gerald, Kevin, Adam Hebert, and Dwight DuBose.

Honorary pallbearers will be Beau Hebert, Danielle Hebert, Ken Morrogh, and 4 th Degree Members of the Knights of Columbus Council1208.

The family would like to thank Mr. Jimmy's caregivers for their loving care and compassion.
