Mary Donaldson Pope

Jeanerette " Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Sam Pope, the former Mary Donaldson, 93, on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Wallace Millsaps officiating. Entombment will follow in the Beau Pre Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 9:00 AM until 1:30 PM.

A native of Many, LA and a resident of Jeanerette, Mrs. Pope passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10:04 AM in a Lafayette hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jeanerette and the Womans Missionary Union. She loved traveling, cooking and canning homemade jams, jellies and entering them into contest such as the Sugar Cane Festival. She also loved to fish, embroidery and collect U.S. coins.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Pope Gatte of Jeanerette; her son, Johnny Pope and his wife Judy of Shalimar, FL; her grandchildren, Treb Gatte and his wife Darla of Seattle, WA, Tammy Gatte Spek and her husband Brian of Atlanta, GA, Kim Broussard and her husband Ronnie of Broussard, Bryan Pope and his wife Summer of Palmetto, FL, Jeremy Pope and his wife Sarah of Niceville, FL, Gregory Pope of Pensacola, FL, Roxie Ann Houck of Slidell, LA, Glena Lynn Houck of Waverland, MS and Mary Houck of Albany, LA; her sister-in-law, Elsie Lee Pope of Jeanerette and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also survived by 19 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, whom she was married to for 65 years, Sam Pope; her parents, John and Roxie Johnson Donaldson; her son, Jackie G. Houck; her sisters, Pearl Whitaker, Agnes Maxwell and Johnnie Mae Harvey and her brothers, Carl, Elmer and J. T. Donaldson.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Pope, Jeremy Pope, Brian Spek, Treb Gatte, Ronnie Broussard, Charlie Donaldson and Tommy Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gregory Pope, David Pope and Tommy Stroud.

David Funeral Home of Jeanerette, 400 Provost St. (337) 276-5151 is in charge of arrangements.
