John Carroll Tilly

New Iberia " Funeral services will be conducted for John Carroll Tilly, 94, on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 11:00 AMat David Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Charles Langlois officiating. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum, with military grave side services by VFW Post # 1982.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and resume on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 9:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:00 PM.

A native and residence of New Iberia, Mr. Tilly died on Tuesday September 4, 2012 in a Escondido, CA hospital. He Retired from the Iberia Sheriff Office after 40 years, as Tax Collector and he was a member of the KCs.

John left for the Army on November 26, 1941 and was stationed at Camp Livingston near Alexandria, LA. There he scored the highest intelligence test in his group. From there he was sent to Camp Shelby in Mississippi and was chosen to go into chemical warfare training at Edgewood, Maryland. He trained for three months and was assigned to the 805th Chemical Company. At the end of 1942 he was promoted to 1st Sergeant of Company 805. About March 6, 1944 he got his AP6 for New York, New York. From there he was shipped overseas near Bari, Italy. He remained in Italy until May of 1945 and was then shipped with his 805 Chemical Company to the Pacific until the end of the war and was honorably discharged on December 1, 1945 at Fort Bliss, Texas. Decorations and citations include Meritorious Unit Award, American Defense, American Theater, European Middle Eastern Asiatic Pacific Theater, Good Conduct & Victory Medal.

He is survived by his children, Morgan Tilly Walker and her husband Douglas of New Iberia: andMiles E. Tilly of Escondido, CA: grandsons, Christopher M. Walker and his wife Stacy of New Iberia: and Joshua M. Walker of New Iberia: great grandchildren, Alanie Walker, Abbi Walker, Brandt Walker, Alexis Smith.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50, Liz Leleux Tilly: parents, Laurent tilly and Emily Greig Tilly; brother Ward L. Tilly; sisters, Ruth Grant, and Irma Singer.
