New Iberia "Funeral Services will be conducted for Roy J. Rogers, Sr. Age 91, at 10:00AM Wednesday November 23, 2011 at David Funeral Home Chapel with Father Ed Degeyter officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be Tuesday November 22, 2011 from 3:00PM until 10:00PM with a Rosary being prayed at 6:30PM. Visitation will resume Wednesday from 8:00AM until service time. Born in Port Arthur, Texas and a longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Rogers died Monday November 21, 2011 at 5:45AM in a local health care facility. Mr. Rogers worked for the Texas Oil Refinery in Port Arthur from 1946 to 1950 before moving to New Iberia. He was a retired Fire Captain with the New Iberia Fire Department retiring after 30 years of service. Having been retired for 30 years he passed away peacefully at Maison Teche Nursing Facility with his family by his side. He was also a veteran of WWII having served his country from Dec. 6, 1941 to Feb. 23, 1946. He was a medic in the Army where he received the American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, Eame Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He enjoyed visiting and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed cast netting, trawling and fishing on his days off from the Fire Department. He also enjoyed playing with his sons 3 dogs, Dannielynn, Bailey and Alora. He is survived by his two sons, Wilfred Rogers and R.J. Rogers and his fiance Eljean Couvillier all of New Iberia, a sister Nada Jean Chance of Nederland, Texas, two nieces, Sharon Graffagnino of Port Neches, Texas and Vicki Welch of Nederland, Texas, two nephews, Kirby Welch of Chandler, Texas and Phil Owens of Port Arthur, Texas, seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ducretia Nan Delahoussaye Rogers, a daughter, Linda Rodriguez, his parents, Wilfred Rogers and May Harper Rogers, two sisters, Beatrice Wainwright and Hazel Owens and a daughter-in-law, Wanda Rogers. Pallbearers will be R.J. Rogers, Jr, Wilfred, Andi, Jude, Colton and Shane Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be John and Josh Reynaud. David Funeral Home, 1101 Trotter St. New Iberia, La.
