Mr. Walet died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday April 10, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Herman was a sugar cane farmer for 54 years and was the founder of Walet Brothers Inc. He was the third generation to farm sugar cane on Caroline Plantation and was the youngest and longest standing member on the Iberia Sugar Co-Op. He served in the National Guard at Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Herman was one of the original founders of the Loreauville Little League. He was an avid hunter and president of the Fausse Point Hunting Club. He enjoyed making creative wood work and growing corn and giving it away to family and friends. He and his wife enjoyed traveling with their children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed lunches on Sunday with his family.
Herman is survived by his wife of 54 years Amaryllis Judice Walet. Children, Lawrie (Mike) Landry, Lanny (Joey) Begnaud, Danny (Christine) Walet, Jill (Lloyd) Fontenot, and Beth (Paul) Boggs, his Brother, Pliny and sister Charlene Walet, Grandchildren Jed, Calli, Ory, Lexi, Molly, Amber, Abbi, Avery, Morgan, Connor, and Grace and Great-grand children Dominic, Noah, Bella, Kason, and Quinten.
He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Laurence Gonsoulin Walet, sisters Carolyn and Gail Walet and brother Michael Walet, aunts, Teresa(Nanny), Rita, and Lillian Walet and Maude Spiess and uncle Merlin Walet.
Pallbearers will be Danny Walet, Mike Landry, Lloyd Fontenot, Paul Boggs, Jed and Ory Begnaud. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Begnaud, Connor Walet, and Jeff Broussard.
David Funeral Home, 118 Main St. Loreauville, La. (227)229-8338 is in charge of arrangements.
