Abbeville " Funeral services for Edward T-Neg Joseph Gaspard, 80, will be held Saturday December 10, 2011 at 11:00AM at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Kenneth Mayne, officiating. Visitation will be at David Funeral home of Abbeville on Friday December 9, 2011 from 9:00AM until 10:00pm with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 8:00AM until 10:00AM at which time a prayer service will be held, lead by Pastor Todd Menard, before proceeding to St. Theresa Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Abshire Cemetery in rural Kaplan. He is survived by two daughters Deborah and her husband Alvin Richard of Erath, and Romona Westerfield of Ridgeland S.C.; his three sons Ronald and his wife Melinda Gaspard of Abbeville, and Lloyd and his wife Marion Gaspard of Abbeville,Darrell and his wife Elizabeth Gaspard of Abbeville,; two brothers William and Pervis Gaspard both of Kaplan; five sisters Ruby Hargrave of Forked Island, Olite Gaspard of Kaplan, Rena Leonard of Forked Island, Celestine McDaniel of Forked Island, and Velma Fredrick of Forked Island. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren Angelique Gaspard of Erath, Andrea Gaspard of Erath, and Aaron Gaspard of Erath,Lori Landry of Abbeville, Bobby Mallet Jr. of Pierre Part La., Matthew Richard of Abbeville, Lisa Broussard of Houston Texas, Payton Westerfield of Fayetteville N.C., Jonathan Westerfield of Ridgeland S.C., Chelsea Gaspard of Abbeville, Morgan Gaspard of Abbeville, Shelby Gaspard of Abbeville, and Addison Gaspard of Abbeville; and twelve great grandchildren. Mr. Gaspard was preceded in death by his wife Gladiola Trahan Gaspard; his parents Edgar and Lillie Touchet Gaspard Sr.; his grandson Adam Gaspard; a brother Edgar Gaspard Jr.; two sisters Evelia Leonard, and Gurdy Suire; his special friend Grace Renard. Pallbears will be his grandsons Bobby Mallet Jr., Matthew Richard, Aaron Gaspard, Addison Gaspard, Jonathan Westerfield, and Payton Westerfield We say good bye to a father, grandfather, great grandfather & well respected musician in the local Cajun music culture. T-Neg is most known as the only standing drummer in Louisiana. He played in many Cajun bands including The Touchet Brothers, T-Neg and the Abbeville Playboys, D. L. Menard & the Louisiana Aces, The Fa "Tras, Stanley Gayneaux and the Lagniappe Cajun Band, and Curtis LeBlanc & Cajun Ramblers. He also played with numerous other bands & countless benefits, jam sessions at Touchets and Caf Museum in Erath. His music has been displayed at the Jean Lafitte Acadian Cultural Center and Acadian Museum in Erath. He was an honoree and was celebrated by the Cajun Culture Association in 2006. He had a lifelong passion for life on the water,shrimping & weekends at the camp. Also his knowledge and love for shrimping was documented in a special with Gumb-Oh! La!La! airing worldwide. T-Negs love for Cajun music,laughter & life will be remembered & missed by many. The family wishes to thank Heart of Hospice, Melissa Jacobs, and Lakeisha Primeaux.
