Lafayette-Betty ONeal Kelly, 81, of Broussard went to be with the Lord on the 20th day of Dec, 2011. Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Thursday,Dec.22, 2011from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM and will resume at 9:00 AM on Friday, December 23, 2011 from 9:00 AM until just prior to service time. Services will be held at 12:00 PM December 23, 2011, at David Funeral Home of Lafayette, LA. Interment will follow services at Fountain Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Nancy Wofford of Faith Community United Methodist Church of Broussard will officiate the services. Mrs. Kelly was born Dec 4th, 1930 in Pinewood, South Carolina, the daughter of late Jesse and Colen Jones Wells formally of South Carolina. In 1947, Betty trained for nursing school at Tomey School of Nursing in Sumter, South Carolina, where she met a handsome Airman named Millard Kelly. Their first date was to see Gene Krupa a big band drummer, known for his highly energetic and flamboyant style. Their romance turned to marriage in 1950, producing four children. Her family lived in California, North Carolina, Alaska, Texas, England, and France for the Air Force from1946-1973 before settling in Broussard, LA in 1978. She worked for Lafayette General Hospital 20 ½ years prior to her retirement in 1998. She is survived by her husband of 61 ½ years Millard Louis Kelly of Broussard, LA; son Richard Dwayne and daughter-in-law Michelle Waldrop-Kelly of Stone Mountain, GA, daughter Debra and son-in-law Oscar Nicholas, Sr. of Anacoco, LA, daughter Vicki and son-in-law Larry Thompson of Broussard, LA, son Robert Franklin and daughter-in-law Paula Kelly of Broussard.LA; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren , three great-great-grandchildren; sisters Helen Donahue, Mary Wingate and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wells. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Oscar Nicholas, Jr., Jason Thompson, Chris Thompson, Cody Nicholas, Dustin Trahan, Mitchell Leonard, Mike Barilleaux, Clarence Trahan. Honorary pallbearers will be, Elizabeth Barilleaux, Amber Leonard, Shauna Trahan, Ashlinn Nicholas, Stacie Thompson, Danielle Thompson, Weatherby Waldrop-Kelly and Jerry Waldrop-Kelly.
