Agnes Rena Guillotte Landry

February 22, 1920 — December 26, 2011

Jeanerette- Rena Guillotte Landry, February 22, 1920, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2011 at her home with her family close at hand.

Rena is survived by her sons Nolan, wife Elvena Rogers; Russell, wife Royce Petifils Broussard, Tony, and Orien, wife Vickie Borel; daughters Josie L. Clements, Ludy L. Pittman, and Mary Kaye, and daughter-in-law Linda George Landry; 30 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren, and 20 great-great grandchildren. As well as many others she considered her adopted children.

Rena was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Russell Sweet Landry; parents Anatole and Ada Hebert Guillotte; daughter Ada Marie Landry; sons-in-law, Beverly Lock Clements and Barry Pittman; daughter-in-law Linda Rogers Landry; granddaughter Angela Landry Gauthier; grandson-in-law Troy Zimmerman; granddaughter-in-law Patty Borel Landry; great granddaughters Claire Gautier and Brooke Landry; and great grandson Brennan Odendahl; brothers Farris, wife Inez Landry Guillotte; Eugene Guillotte, Tellerson, wife Eva Bonin Guillotte; and sisters Mella, husband Forest Pip Hebert; Annie Mae, husband Elton Breaux; and Mildred, husband Edgar Parro.

Rena will be best remembered for her love of being outdoors and passion for cutting grass, and was seen on her riding lawnmower cutting grass throughout the city. Especially for the lawn care for St. John the Evangelist Church and Rectory, and her beloved Pere T.J. Hebert. Every election she would attach her favorite political candidates sign to her mower. Rena also enjoyed young people and worked for the eighth ward recreational center and the Saturday night dances for many years.

Whenever a resident of Jeanerette was in need of financial assistance during a tragedy or illness, Rena was out and about town asking for donations and assistance for fund raisers to help defray costs with raffles and dinners to ease the burdens her neighbors were facing. Working for veteran organizations through bingos was another favorite past time. Sometimes too outspoken and known for calling a spade a spade, it was clear that she had a heart of gold that was bigger than her whole body. It was her willingness to assist others that always placed their needs ahead of her own.

A special thank you to Renas current hospice, Hospice of Acadiana and the in house care givers: Judith, Donna, Jonee, Madeline, Louise, Vanessa, Jackie, Julie and Carolyn and the sitters. And Renas former hospice Heart of Hospice in house care givers: Eleanor and Bridgette.

Rena requested direct cremation and no funeral services. Honorary Pallbearers are: Tory Landry, Barry Gauthier, Elton Brother Breaux, Jr., Frank Cotone, Bob Sisk, Richard Pepper, L.C Buddy Clement, and Jerry Bodin. In lieu of flowers you are invited to offer a donation for research for any one of the diseases that complicated her final days on earth which were Cancer, Heart Disease, Alzheimers, Parkinsons, and Diabetes.
