Abbeville " Funeral services for Rufus Wayne Vaughan, 86, will be held Wednesday July 4, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of David Funeral Home in Abbeville, with Brother Nick Gathers, Pastor of the Vermilion Gospel Tabernacle will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday July 3, 2012 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 PM. and a Veteran Memorial Vigil to be held at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of services. Interment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by the Vermilion Parish Honor Guards. A native of Pecan Island and a resident of Abbeville, Rufus passed away on Monday July 2, 2012 at Lafayette General Hospital. Rufus was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He enjoyed Cajun dancing, and making his rounds visiting with friends and family, he was a member of the Cajun Culture, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Rufus served his country during WWII first with the US Coast Guard then with the US Navy serving aboard the USS Bayfield. Survivors include his five children Leonard and his wife Annette Delcambre of Abbeville, Randall and his wife Mona Cormier of Cade, Bayne and her husband Craig Trahan of Abbeville, Chad Vaughan of Cankton, and Tim Vaughan of Lafayette; his brother Wilfred Vaughan of Abbeville; five sisters Melva Dummitt of Spring TX., Annie Belle Richard of Abbeville, Alma Minzenmayer of Abbeville, Adelena Sharpton of Beaumont TX., and Velta Lee Baxley of Plano TX.; five grandchildren Keisha Delcambre, Misty Viator, Joshua Trahan, Lanie Trahan, and Tyler Vaughan; two great grandchildren Samantha and Emily Viator. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Willie Richardson Vaughan; his parents Claude and Eva Hardin Vaughan; and two sisters Wilda Mae Romero and Alberta Lou Vaughan. Serving as pallbearers will be Leonard Delcambre, Randall Cormier, Chad Vaughan, Tim Vaughan Craig Trahan, and Joshua Trahan. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Romero, Wayne Romero, Neil Richard and Steve Guillory. David Funeral Home of Abbeville, 2600 Charity St. (337) 893-3777 is handling the arrangements.
