Abbeville " A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Clarence Hebert, the former Velta Theriot, 87, will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, January 23, 2012 at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Fr. Kendell Faulk officiating. Visitation will be at David Funeral home of Abbeville on Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 10:00AM until 9:00PM with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume on Monday, January 23, 2012 from 8:00AM until the time of the services. Interment will follow at St. Paul Mausoleum. A native of Abbeville and a resident of Abbeville Mrs. Hebert died at 4:45PM on Friday, January 20, 2012 at her residence. Mrs. Velta was a June 1941 graduate of Abbeville High School. She was immediately hired as chief bookkeeper for 6 years for Jacob Weills Department Store in Abbeville. Then was a secretary to Judge Richard Putnam for a year and a half, who was District Attorney at that time. She resigned from Judge Putnam for employment with the Department of Health and Human Resources which was originally Department of Welfare; and worked there for over 30 years. She started first as a typist clerk I; Went on to Stenographer Clerk I; to Stenographer Clerk II; then to Stenographer Clerk III as Clerical Supervisor; she completed her career with a promotion to field staff as Eligibility Worker before retiring. Mrs. Velta loved to travel. She toured throughout the states and our seas which included, England, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Africa, Canada, Mexico, and also enjoyed a Caribbean cruise. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for eight young Cub Scouts. One of whom was Darrell Wayne; member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 29; she also played Pokino with the same group of ladies on the third Tuesday of the month for many years. Mrs. Velta is survived by her husband of 47 years, Mr. Clarence BB Hebert; granddaughter Wendy Pere` Bergeron and husband Kurtis; great grandchildren: Brandon, Chance and Kyra of Lafayette; step-son Robert Darrel Hebert and wife Katina LeMaire Hebert; step grandchildren: Stephanie Faye and Robert Nathan Hebert; one step great granddaughter; Layla Claire Hebert; she is also survived by her special niece; Pixie Lewis-Hilham of Tennessee, and special nephew; Chris Trahan and wife Nancy of Mobile, Alabama. They looked to Mrs. Velta as their mother and were in close and regular contact with her. She was preceded in death by her only child, Darrell Wayne Pere` ; her parents Nicaise and Anise Luquette Theriot; three brothers and their spouses: Walter Lightning Theriot and Iris Chiasson Theriot, Lester Theriot, Pierre Roy Theriot and Nancy Shoup Theriot; four sisters: Evelyn Theriot, infant sister Nelia Theriot, James Lewis and George Myrhaugen, Benith Theriot Stewart and Jack Franklin Stewart, Ruby Mae Theriot Trahan and Alex Trahan; step grandson Cody James Hebert.
