Marie "Helen" Benoit Scelfo

October 23, 1929 — February 15, 2012

New Iberia " A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted for Mrs. Bernard Benny Scelfo the former Marie Helen Benoit, Age 82, at 1:00PM Friday February 17, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Richard Green officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum. Visitation will be Thursday February 16, 2012 from 5:00PM until 9:00PM with a Rosary being prayed at 6:30PM. Visitation will resume Friday from 8:00AM until service time. A native of Lafayette and longtime resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Scelfo died Wednesday February 15, 2012 at 6:35AM at her residence in New Iberia. Mrs. Helen was a religion teacher at Mt. Carmel Academy and she worked at the social service center for 20 years. She was on the executive committee and head of religious education for Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. Survivors include her husband of 63 years Bernard Benny Scelfo of New Iberia; children, Elizabeth S. Cannon and husband Ray of New Iberia, Butch Scelfo and wife Alice of Lafayette, Mike Scelfo and wife Debbie of Lafayette, Stephen Scelfo and wife Virginia of Katy, Texas, David Scelfo and wife Donna of Carencro and Paul Scelfo and wife Tammy of Lafayette; 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edna Guidry Benoit and a grandson, Jacob Cannon. Pallbearers will be Butch, Mike, Stephen, David and Paul Scelfo and Ray Cannon.
