Celebrating 84 years of life, Camay was surrounded by her loving family when she peacefully passed away in their home on February 21, 2012.
Mrs. Camay Hulin was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, and named after the legendary Camay soap in 1927. She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1944 and, continued her education at S.L.I., now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL). She endeavored to achieve a double major undergraduate degree and went on to acquire a Masters Degree in Education. She started teaching adult education classes after WWII in Delcambre, Louisiana, where her heart was captured by one of her adult students, John D. Hulin. They were married on November 18, 1951 and celebrated 60 loving years of marriage in 2011. Camay was a teacher at several locations, most memorably at Delcambre High and New Iberia Senior High. She was the first teacher at NISH to receive the Spirit Stick in 1973, as voted by the student body, which reflects the type of positive teacher and mentor she was for many years. She taught American History and was an FBLA advisor for several years. However, not only her students, but people in general looked to Camay for guidance and direction throughout her life. She was always calm, positive and patient; she was always thinking of others first; and, she influenced others to strive to live up to her example. She and her husband, JD Hulin, loved to travel and retired early to pursue that desire. They went on many trips together, but her favorite trips were to Las Vegas; and, later in life, those frequent trips to the Casino, where she made wonderful friendshipstoo numerous to address individually. Although, she loved playing cards and socially interacting with her friends, some of Camays favorite times were those wonderful rides with her husband back to Cypremort Point. They lived there many years during retirement until Hurricane Rita forced them to move back to their New Iberia home. So, they would ride to share those beautiful Cypremort Point Sunsets and reflect of the many happy years of life, love and friendships they experienced together with their son Greg, Schicka when they lived at their Cypremort Point camp.
Survivors include her husband, John D. Hulin (J.D.); sons, Michael, Eric and Greg; daughter, Rene Hulin; sister, Katherine (Kitty) LaHood of Lake Charles; brother, Anthony (Tony) LaHood of Lafayette; and grand children, Douglas and Jacob Morgan, Chrystal and husband Mike Aber, Travis, Danielle, Nicholas and wife Amanda Hulin. Camay is preceded in death by parents, John and Edna LaHood of Lafayette; one son, Karl David Hulin; and daughter-in-law, Cindy Barras Hulin. Special thanks is extended to Dr. Vena Baker, Dr Alam, and loving family friend, Denise Anderson.
