Lafayette- Millard Louis Kelly, Jr., 84, went to be with the Lord on the 4th day of March 2012. Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 11:00AM until 7:00PM and will resume at 9:00AM on Thursday, March 8, 2012 until just prior to service time. Services will be held at 11:00AM March 8, 2012, at David Funeral Home of Lafayette, LA. Interment will follow services at Fountain Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Nancy Wofford of Faith Community United Methodist Church of Broussard will officiate the services. Mr. Kelly was born March 5th, 1927 in Anderson, South Carolina, the son of Millard Louis Kelly, Sr. and Gertrude Darnall Kelly formally of South Carolina. In 1947, Mr. Kelly joined the United States Air Force (originally the Army Air Corps) and served his country faithfully for 26 years. While in the Air Force, he served in combat in Korea and Viet Nam and was stationed in California, North Carolina, Alaska, Texas, France and England before his retirement to Broussard, LA in 1973. Mr. Kelly was known to his family and community as a loving, caring father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who willingly and generously gave of himself, his time and resources. In his retirement he served in many places around Broussard and Lafayette, touching many lives. He took great pride in his family, his yard and his flower garden. He is survived by his son Richard Dwayne and daughter-in-law Michelle Waldrop-Kelly of Stone Mountain, GA; daughter, Debra and son-in-law Oscar Nicholas, Sr. of Anacoco, LA; daughter, Vicki and son-in-law Larry Thompson of Broussard, LA; son, Robert Franklin and daughter-in-law Paula Kelly of Broussard, LA; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and six sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Wells Kelly; parents, Millard Louis Kelly, Sr. and Gertrude Darnall Kelly; brother, Glenn Kelly and one sister, Cynthia Kelly Thompson. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be The Mens Group of Faith Community United Methodist Church of Broussard, LA and Mr. Kellys brother-in-law, Stan Ashley. The Kelly family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Hospice of Acadiana and a special thank you to Judith and Donna with Hospice of Acadiana for their special care and compassion shown to Mr. Kelly and his family during this difficult time.
