Douglas Joseph Walet

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 beginning at 9:00 AM until services. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:00 AM by the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Daughters.

A native and lifelong resident of Loreauville, Mr. Walet passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 11:20 AM at his sister-in-laws residence in Lafayette. Mr. Walet is a veteran of the U. S. Navy and was on a gunboat anchored off Okinawa when World War II ended. He retired from the Shell Oil Company, ending his career with the company at the Weeks Island Field. His hobby, which he was very passionate about, was raising game chickens.

Douglas is survived by his sister-in-law, Louizette Broussard Labbe and her husband Leon of Lafayette and brother-in-law, Al Chris Broussard and his wife Betty of Parks. Douglas and his wife, Jeanette, reared Louizette from age 14 and Al from age 10 when their mother, Elizabeth Bienvenu Broussard died. Also surviving are his wife Jeanettes other siblings, Katsy Mouton, Halphen Broussard, Jr. and his wife Gladys, Benny Broussard and his wife Lou and Gayle Bourque and her husband Ray. Douglas is also survived by his brother, Rogers R. Walet and his wife Betty of Loreauville and numerous nieces and nephews.

Douglas was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Jeanette Broussard Walet, his parents, Joseph and Lilly Gondron Walet, his wifes parents, Halphen Broussard, Sr. and Elizabeth Elise Broussard Bienvenu, his brother, Charles H. Walet and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Broussard.

Pallbearers will be Al Broussard, Hunter Arceneaux, Michael Walet, John Walet, John Phillip Hebert and Garland Broussard.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Acadiana and all his caregivers for their professional, compassionate and tender care in the last months of Douglass life.
