Lafayette - Funeral services will be held for Mr. Merlin Whitey Blanchard, 73, on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 1:30 PM in the David Funeral Home Chapel with Father Bill Ruskoski officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be on Friday, February 15, 2013 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM with a Rosary recited at 7:00 PM and resume on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 8:00 AM until services. Whitey a native of Breaux Bridge and a resident of Broussard, passed away Wednesday February 13, 2013 at Lafayette General Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was a draftsman for Union Oil Co . then became the owner of Blanchard Meat Co. in Broussard, later he moved his family to Clayton County Georgia were he retired as a drainage engineer, he was also an avid Golfer. He is survived by his wife Eleanor Duhon Blanchard of Broussard; two sons, Chad and his wife Beth Blanchard of Cummings Ga., and Steven Blanchard of Broussard; two daughters Bridget and her husband David Huval of Broussard, and Michelle and her husband Charles Ray Smith of Broussard; his aunt whom he regarded as a sister Joyce Savoy of Lafayette; six grandchildren Blair Hulin, Dutchess Bernard, Jolee Bernard, Lauren Blanchard, Drake Blanchard, Isabel Blanchard;; his seven great grandchildren Jayce Hulin, Mackenzie Hulin, Alayah Gaspard, Cody Gaspard, Rosalei Bernard, Kaiden Lavergne, Malee Myers, His five step grandchildren Ashley Smith, Aaron Smith, Amanda Urena, Devon Huval, and Josie Basas; and his step great granddaughter Sadie Smith He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mabel Sonnier Blanchard.
