New Iberia- Funeral services for Mr. Carl F. McDowell, age 66 will be held on Tuesday April 16, 2013 at 2:00pm at David Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Theo Landry to serve as the Celebrant. Interment with military honor guard will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin Tuesday morning at 10:00am and last until service time with a recitation of the rosary at 1:00pm.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Poochie as he was affectionately known, passed away at his residence on Sunday April 14, 2013 at 12:32am. Mr. McDowell worked for Dresser Atlas for over 20 years before starting his own businesses, McLo Rental Tools and Mac Drilling. Mr. McDowell was an avid golfer and fisherman; he enjoyed traveling and was a Dive Master. As a child he enjoyed boxing and embraced the true fighter that he was. He served in the United States Army as a Green Beret, Airborne Ranger, and was a Purple Heart recipient during the Vietnam War. Poochie had a wonderful sense of humor, was always friendly, and never met a stranger. He was described by his family as, the strongest man we will ever know and he will be truly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanie McDowell of New Iberia; son, Clint McDowell and wife Stephanie R. of Lafayette; daughter, Starr Sanford and husband Michael of Zachary; mother, Lou Romero McDowell of New Iberia; brother, Russ McDowell and partner Michael Mason of Deruyter, NY; sister, Susan Rainbow and husband Timothy of Fabius, NY; grandchildren, Lyla Claire, Keller Ryan, and Corinne Elisabeth McDowell all of Lafayette, Michael Mac, Christian Luke, and Alexandra Tate Sanford all of Zachary; and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Carl H. McDowell Sr.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rodney Schmidt, Jerry Trahan, Phil Patout, Mike Arton, Michael Mac Sanford, and Christian Sanford.
Honorary pallbearer will be Keller McDowell.
