Anite Breaux Gondron

April 6, 1908 — April 7, 2013

Funeral services will be held on Thursday,April 11, 2013 at 1:00 pm at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Loreauville, for Anite Breaux Gondron, 105 years and one day old, who passed away at her home on April 7, 2013. The Rev. John G. Buddy Breaux, and Rev. Paul Onuegbe will officate.

Anite, fondly known as Mamou by her family and friends, was a native of the Loreauville area. She was Valedictorian of the Loreauville High School Class of 1926, the last graduating class before the school burned. She was married for 58 years to Louto J. Gondron, of the Faubourg area, before his death in 1989.

As the matriarch of five generations, she was a pillar of strength and independence. Such qualities are best exemplified by her achievement of living independently in her family home throughout her later years and then dying there surrounded by her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who cared deeply for her family and friends. She lived simply and humbly. She had a life-long dedication to her Catholic faith, and she was a faithful member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Our Lady of Good Counsel for sixty-six years. A talented seamstress, she could create her own patterns for special occasion dresses from pictures in magazines. Known also for her cooking expertise, she gladly shared this gift, as well as the food she prepared with others. She mastered many recipes over the years, but she was best-known for her meat pies and many desserts made with pecans or figs. She valued education and spent her life learningthrough the LSUExtensionShort Courses and many activities in the Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed her many friends, including her monthly Pokeno group. An avid reader, she was inclined to request the latest selection by Oprahs Book Club from the local library.

She is survived by three daughters: Mary Ann Derouen of Coteau; Junelle G. Jefferies and husband, Gene; and Georgette G. Romero and husband, C.L., of Loreauville; two sons: Alton Gondron Sr. and wife, Deanna, of Loreauville and Jason Gondron, Sr. and wife, Linda, of Lafayette; sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her brothers: Lester Breaux of Port Arthur, Texas and Ferdinand C. Breaux, Jr. and his wife, Goldie, of Loreauville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louto J. Gondron; her parents, Ferdinand Clet Breaux, Sr. and Dozia Gonsoulin Breaux; her brothers, Felix, Bertin and Leonard; and her sisters, Etta B. Dugas, Jeanne B. Dugas, Lylia B. Boutte and Stella B. Broussard.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Dale Derouen, Brian Derouen, Brent Derouen, Alton Gondron, Jr., Cody Romero, Brice Romero, Cole Romero, Jason Gondron, Jr. and Joseph Gondron.

The family would like to thank her medical team of Brock Romero, NP and staff, Dr. David Rinaldi and staff, Concepts of Care Home Health Agency, Hospice of Acadiana and staff and her very special friends and caregivers, Cheryl Huval, Angie Champagne, Judy Bourque and Angie Frederick.

Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home in Loreauville from Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 4:00 pm till 9:00 pm. A rosary service will be held at 6:30 pm. Visitation will resume Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 8:00 am till time of service.
