A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Darby passed away on Monday May 27, 2013 at 6:30am at a St. Martinville nursing home. Mr. Darby was the owner and operator of Darbys Cab Service, a taxi company that served New Iberia for over 20 years. He was also a Master Carpenter, and built ships for the Navy and Barracks for the Army at Fort Polk during World War II. Mr. Darby was a member and past king of the Council on Aging, Sugarcane and Mardi Gras King, and was first runner-up at the Regional Louisiana Nursing Home Pageant. He enjoyed running field trial dogs, raising beagles, camping, gardening, and loved to dance.
Mr. Darby is survived by his children, Carrie Darby Dore of New Iberia, Liz Darby Buteau of New Iberia, Wilton Joseph Darby and wife Betty Louviere of Loreauville, Beverly Darby Morrison and husband Dr. Dennis of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Renee Judice Roussel and husband John of Seabrook, TX., Lee T. Dore of Plumas Lake, CA., Rocky G. Buteau and wife Michelle of Lafayette, Randy E. Buteau of Pflugerville, TX., Troy J. Buteau and wife Cheryl of Cade, Kay B. Breaux and husband Brian of New Iberia, Lindsey B. Dugas and husband Dwayne of New Iberia, Julie Prados and husband Theran of Loreauville, John Paul Darby and wife Trisha of New Iberia, Kelly D. Cotone and husband Timothy of Bull Island, Donna D. Dubois and husband T.J., Kim D. Langle and husband Shane of New Iberia, Jaime B. Perez and husband Joseph of Freeport, TX., Joshua Lewis Bernard and wife Kimberly of Houston, TX; step grandchildren, Darrell Dore and wife Melanie of New Iberia, Larrell Dore of Huntington Beach, CA; sisters, Mildred Myers of Opelousas, Helen Darby Courrege of New Iberia; 31 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years, Edalie Marie Zimmerman, son, Jimmy Darby Jr., parents, St. Mark Semar Darby and Carrie Stephens Darby; second wife Lou David Darby; siblings, Monroe Darby, Jessie Cole, Alice Bourgeois, Nellie Mouret, Clarence Darby, St. Mark Pete Darby, Anna Lee Bienemann, Francis Darby, Lizzie Leleux and Louise Morrison.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rocky Buteau, Randy Buteau, Troy Buteau, Lee Dore, John Darby, and Joshua Bernard.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of Mr. Darbys grandsons and great grandsons.
