Youngsville- A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at David Funeral Home of Lafayette for Paul B. Ortego, 57, who died at his home after a year-long battle with cancer. Rev. Bill Ruskoski will officiate the service. Visitation will be held Monday, June 17, 2013 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00PM and will resume at 9:00AM on Tuesday until just prior to service time. Entombment will be at a later date. Mr. Ortego was a native of Ville Platte and attended Sacred Heart High School. He began his career with Halliburton Services in Lafayette at age 18 when he met and married his wife of 39 years, Louise Guidroz. His career with Halliburton as a superintendent/service coordinator took him to Nigeria, Russia, Khazakstan and preceeding his death, Basrah, Iraq. He also was an instructor on Halliburtons Roll-Out Team, training employees in facilities across the continental United States. Mr. Ortego was an avid golfer and a member of Vieux Chenes Golf Course for many years. He was passionate about cooking, camping and his New Orleans Saints. He is survived by his wife, Louise Guidroz Ortego, three daughters, Merri Ortego Cormier of Lafayette, Carlie Renee Ortego of North Charleston, South Carolina, and Riane Clare Ortego of Lafayette; two grandsons, Colby Allen Cormier of Lafayette and Brackston Luke Cassidy of Lafayette; two brothers, Joseph Larry Fontenot and his wife Tracy of Brookshire, Texas and Joseph Bradley Ortego of Eunice and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Otreed Ortego and Elsie Fontenot Ortego of Ville Platte and his brother, John Lander Fontenot of Moss Bluff. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. James Cole and Dr. Perri Prellop along with the nursing staff of oncology at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. And a very special thanks to Pauls oldest and dearest friend, J.W. Fontenot, for all of his help and love during this difficult journey.
