A Native and lifelong resident of Abbeville Mr. Meaux died at 3:00AM on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at his residence just nine day shy of his 87th birthday. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII during which time he served overseas on the USS Rocky Mount and was part of the invasion Leyte, Zamboago, and the Torakan Islands. Then he retired as superintendent of mail from the U.S. Postal Service after 27 years of service. He went back to school and became a Data Processing Manager and retired from the Vermilion Parish School Board after 12 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 4158 having served as Post Commander and twice as District Commander, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 29. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2281. Mr. Meaux was known for his enjoyment of garden and genology.
He is survived by two sons, Kevin Meaux of Abbeville and Wayne Meaux of Lake Charles; a daughter, Francine Elliott and her husband Jerry of Many; six grandchildren, Bruce Meaux, Stoni Perieda, Ian Elliott, Dillon Elliott, Kyle Elliott, and Gabrielle Meaux; and two sisters, Annie Louise Trahan of Abbeville and Anita Broussard of Port Aurthur, TX.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Arpin Meaux; parents, Didier and Josephine Gisclar Meaux; three brothers, Roy J. Meaux, Didier Elie Meaux, and Joseph Edias Meaux; and one sister, Ella Baudoin.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Meaux, Bruce Meaux, D.J. Perieda, Dillon Elliott, Ian Elliott, and Tony Broussard.
Serving as honorary Pallbearers will be Kyle Elliott and Michael Meaux.
David Funeral Home of Abbeville at 2600 Charity St. (337)893-3777 will be handling the arrangements.
