John Emery Duplantis

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for John Emery Duplantis (PawPaw) , age 83 at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Entombment will be held at Nativity of Our Lady Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, July 15 with a rosary at 6:30pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:30 am on Tuesday until time of service.

A native of St. Martinville and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Duplantis passed away on Friday, July 12, 2013.

John Emery was a graduate of St. Martinville Sr. High School. He enjoyed being project manager for many family projects and was known as a jack of all trades and master of none . Family was very important to him. He retired after serving 23 years in the United States Air Force. He then worked for many years for the State of Louisiana at the Employment office. He then worked for Morton Chemical and retired from there when the plant closed. His strong work ethic then took him to Bruce Foods where he worked until he decided to stay home and work full-time on family projects. He was an active member of his faith community at Nativity of Our Lady and was a member of the Knights of Columbus at Nativity. His life advice is one of the many things that he passed on to all. His strong beliefs in education lead him to obtain his bachelors degree while working and raising his family.

Mr. Duplantis is survived by nine children, Anne D. Lovato and husband Mark; Mary (Kathy) D. Musumeche and husband David; Christine (Chris) D. Grudzien and husband Richard; John (Jed) Duplantis, Jr. and wife Bonnie; Vicki D. Landry and husband Faron; Philip (Phil) Duplantis and wife Ellen; Anita D. McCoy and husband Howard; Keith Duplantis and wife Joni; Paul Duplantis and wife Laura. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; His surviving siblings include one sister Judy Carnahan Webb (Houston) and two brothers: Homer "Junior" Duplantis (Houston), and Allan Duplantis (Broussard), and special daughters Tiuana Williams, Jackie Thompson and Lucreutia Augustine.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris Barras Duplantis; his parents, Homer and Henrietta Duplantis; his sisters Florence "Flo" Suire and Genevieve Jenny Lasseigne ;Grandson Nicholas Duplantis and several special angels.

Pallbearers will be Steven Musumeche, Jacob Musumeche, Matthew Musumeche, Travis Duplantis, Ray Romero, III, Josh Doucet, and Corey Trim.

Honorary pallbearers will be all the granddaughters and outlaws .
