Theodore Melancon, Jr.

New Iberia- Funeral service for Mr. Theodore Pop Melancon Jr., age 90, will be held on Friday, July 26, 2013 at 3:00pm at David Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Rousse to serve as the Celebrant. Visitation will begin Friday morning at 9:00am and conclude at 2:45pm. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.

A native of Larose, La. and resident of New Iberia, Pop as he was affectionately known passed away on Wednesday July 24, 2013 at Belle Teche Nursing Home at 2:14pm. On the morning of December 7, 1941 a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against a United States naval base at Pearl Harbor took place. The attack led to the United States' entry into World War II. The USS Tangier and its crew survived the attack on Pearl Harbor and were able to steam out of Battleship Row to avoid being destroyed, and went on to fight the Japanese during the Pacific Campaign. Pop was stationed aboard the USS Tangier. He was Veteran of the United States Navy and honorably served his country as a Water Tender Third Class and is a Hero in the hearts and minds of many.

Pop was an avid outdoorsman, from the water to the woods. He loved hunting and fishing and especially being at the Lake with his family and friends. He is now on a big beautiful lake enjoying the sunset.

He is survived by his daughters, Juanita M. Hoover, Shirley (Bernie) Guillot, Rita (Sid)Boudreaux all of New Iberia; sons, Robert (Marion Lucas)Melancon of Church Point, Raymond (Brenda) Melancon of Breaux Bridge; and his 3 trusty dogs, Mollie, Baby, and Coco whom kept his sprit up during difficult times.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Avenia Touchet Melancon; parents, Theodore Sr. and Valerie Rogers Melancon; four brothers, Nolti Melancon, Arthur Melancon, Bertude Melancon, Leffred L.J. Melancon Sr.; sister, Rose Bud Melancon; son in law, Michael Hoover.

Family members will serve as the pallbearers.

The Family would like to thank the 2 nd Floor Staff at Iberia Medical Center, Dr. Burt Bujard, Dr. David Rinaldi, and Hospice Compassus of Lafayette for all of their care and compassion.
