Visitation will be on Sunday, August 18, 2013, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and resume on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 8:00 AM until services. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Sunday, August 18, 2013, at 6:30 PM.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Betar passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Consolata Nursing Home. He retired from the Iberia Parish School Board after teaching for 30 years. He taught at New Iberia Senior High School and was the head of the Social Studies Department. He was a proud and devoted catholic and was a Eucharistic Minister and Lecture at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and presided over the Way of the Cross during Lent. He was a kind, loving person and proud of his family. He volunteered at Consolata Nursing Home of over 30 years, helping with Mass, serving as a Lecture and distributing Holy Communion. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U. S. Army. He was a member and a former Chaplin for the American Legion Post 335.
He is survived by his sister, Marie Adele Betar Miles and her husband Wilbur of New Iberia; his brother, John Betar of New Iberia; his nieces, Renee Miles Indest and her husband Joey of Baton Rouge and Jaynellen Miles Tannery and her husband Timothy of Dallas, TX; his great nieces, Corine Miles English and her husband Shawn of Oklahoma, Krista Fournerat and her husband Lane of Lafayette, Elizabeth Indest, Rebecca Indest both of Baton Rouge and Clair Tannery of Texas; his great nephew, Travis Tannery of Texas; his great great nephews, Brendon English of Oklahoma and Jacques Fournerat of Lafayette and his great great niece, Amelia Fournerat of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George A. Betar, Sr. and Edna Jones Betar and his nephew, Jude Miles.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Elias, Stanley Waguespack, Jr., Alfred Ackal, Anthony Ackal, Wilbur Miles and Joey Indest.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Betar, Ronnie Desormeaux, Jamie Touchett and Gregory Broussard.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Consolata Nursing Home, Dr. Carl Ditch, Dr. Gerald Elias, Jr. and Ella Mae Simpson.
The family request Memorials in Mr. Betars name to Our Lady of Perpetual Catholic Church.
