New Iberia - A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 2:00pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in New Iberia for Lawrence "Square" Hensgens, Sr. age 79 who died September 20, 2013. Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Mausoleum. Rev Mark Derise and Rev Ed Degeyter will be officiating for the services.
Scriptures and petitions will be read by Lauren Hensgens, Kallie Barras Landry, Heath Hensgens and Taylor Trahan.
Gift Bearers will be the remaining grandchildren and great grandchildren, including the MawMaw and PawPaw Hensgens Family Bible from Germany. The family is requesting visiting be held on Sunday, September 22, 2013, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM led by The Catholic Men's Group. Visitation will resume on Monday, September 23, 2013, at 8:00 AM until services.
Also, a rosary will be recited on Monday at 11:00 AM by Deacon Theo Landry and Deacon Patrick Burke.

Lawrence was born April 1, 1934 in Branch, Louisiana. He attended St Michael Elementary and St Michael High School in Crowley, graduating in 1952.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lula Link Hensgens; three sons, Larry Hensgens, Danny Hensgens and wife Debbie, Donnie Hensgens and wife Joan, two daughters, Darlene Hensgens Barras and husband Dicky all of New Iberia, Lisa Hensgens Trahan and husband Lance ofDelcambre and adopted son Denis delaHoussaye of New Iberia; his sister, Alberta Hensgens Lyons of Crowley; his brother, Raymond Hensgens and his wife Kitty of Crowley; his sister-in-law, Sarah Ann Hensgens of Crowley and his brother-in-law, Henry Leonards of Crowley.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lauren, Logan and Christian Hensgens and fiance Krystyna Bryan, Toby Provost and his wife Kylie, Mandy Provost, Heath, Hailey and Hans Hensgens, Kallie Barras Landry and her husband Jarett, Courtney Barras Musacchia and her husband Chase, Taylor and Baleigh Trahan and great grandchildren, Henry Landry, Reese Provost and Averie Provost.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Christian Joseph Hensgens and Mary Elizabeth Thevis Hensgens, from Roberts Cove; his brother, Lennie Hensgens from Crowley: his sisters Wilma Hensgens Leonards, from Crowley and Germaine Hensgens Schneider and brother-in-law F. J. Schneider from Bayou Vista and good friend Bonzo Comeaux from Lafayette.
Pallbearers will be Larry, Danny, Donnie Hensgens, Dicky Barras, Lance Trahan and Jerry Adams.
Honorary pallbearers include Ray Hensgens, Marcy Lyons, Denis delaHoussaye, Mark Mouton, Curtis Bonin, Big G Jackson, Gene Flash, Terry Fox, Bud Zaunbrecher and Community 1st Bank Softball Team. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Iberia Recreation Softball of Fame, c/o Community First Bank. Make checks payable to NIRD Softball Hall of Fame. Memorials also can be made to St Jude Hospital.
Organist will be his sister, Alberta Hensgens Lyons. Trumpet - Will Green Violinist - Tommy Benoit Vocalist - Jody Bollick Granddaughter, Hailey Hensgens - will be singing at the graveside service.
Lawrence "Square" worked for Halliburton Services for 36 years then had a business doing tractor work until he retired in 2000.
Square enjoyed LSU football and baseball, also was active in softball in New Iberia having been inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004. He was also inducted to LA ASA Softball Hall of Fame in 2011. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. His quality of life was enhanced by his love for his wife, children, grandchildren, great gandchildren and many friends.
