Abbeville - Memorial services will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 3:00PM at David Funeral Home in Abbeville, LA for Dr. Sanford J. LaBorde 92 who passed away on Monday September 16, 2013 at Lafayette General Hospital. Dr. LaBorde was born in Plaquemine, LA and raised in New Orleans, He attended Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL. After graduation Dr. LaBorde enlisted in the US Army where he served with the US Army Medical Corps, serving at Utah Beach on D-Day and also at the Battle of the Bulge. Upon returning to New Orleans after WWII, he married and moved to Abbeville where he practiced optometry and was active in many civic and professional organizations. He established the Mt. Carmel Eaglette Drum & Bugle Corps, which had the honor of marching in the inauguration parade of President John F. Kennedy, and was also active in the Mt. Carmel Boosters Club. Dr. LaBorde also designed the official flag for the City of Abbeville. He is survived by his five sons, Thomas LaBorde MD and his wife Dana of Lafayette, LA ; Michael LaBorde and his wife Linda, of Eugene, OR ; James LaBorde and his wife Susan, of Denver, CO ;Edward LaBorde and his wife Shonda, of Lafayette, LA ; Robert LaBorde and his wife Susan, of Bethany, OK ; the mother of his children, Therese Harrington LaBorde of Lafayette, LA ; Fifteen grandchildren and eleven great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine LaBorde ; his parents Charles and Muriel LaBorde; and his brother Charles Dupont LaBorde OD. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to Mt. Carmel Elementary 405 Park Av. Abbeville, LA 70510.
