Nita Bourque Berard

Visitation will be on Sunday, September 22, 2013, from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM and resume on Monday, September 23, 2013, at 8:00 AM until services. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Sunday at 6:00 PM.

A native of Maurice, a resident of New Iberia and a former resident of Loreauville, Mrs. Berard passed away on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at 2:13 PM in a New Iberia nursing facility.

She was a graduate of S.L.I. and taught Home Economics at Loreauville High School until 1988. She taught in the Iberia Parish School System for 41 years. She was a member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking and baking and taking care of her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Duane Latiolais of Lafayette and Phyllis Savoy and her significant other Mayor Al Broussard of Loreauville; her sons, Danny Berard and his wife Myrna of New Iberia, Peter Berard and his wife Peggy of Houston, TX, Charlie Berard and his wife Rhealeen of Loreauville, Alvin Berard and his wife Colleen of Cecilia and Stephen Berard and his wife Joan of New Iberia; her grandchildren, Monica L. Ardoin, Beth L. Deshautelle, Ryan Savoy, Terrell Savoy, Joshua Perkins, Brooke Berard Garret, Brennon Berard, Ben Berard, Chris Berard, Jacob Berard, Ashley Berard and Eli Berard; her great grandchildren, Tyler Ardoin, Nicholas Ardoin, Joseph Deshautelle, Jackson Deshautelle, Cade Savoy, Evan Savoy, Brad Michael Garret, Malia Schexnayder, Zoe Perkins and Cole Savoy; her brother, Luke June Bourque, Jr. of Maurice and her sister, Mary Mae Menard of Milton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd A. Berard; her parents, Luke Bourque and Suzanne Baudoin Bourque; her brothers, Mabry Bourque, Roy Bourque, Ogden Bourque, Noah Bourque, Robley Bourque and Alphe Bourque; her sisters, Elizabeth B. Meche, Ann B. Romero and Marie Bourque and her grandchildren, Amy Suzanne Latiolais and Brad Charles Berard.

Pallbearers will be Terrell Savoy, Ryan Savoy, Ben Berard, Chris Berard, Brennon Berard and Jacob Berard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eli Berard and Joshue Perkins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Belle Teche Nursing and Rehilibation Center and Hospice Compassus.
