New Iberia " Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Sidney Romero, the former Leah Gary, age 105, on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Mark Derise officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, October 18, 2013, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and resume on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 8:00 AM until services. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Friday at 7:00 PM. A native of Youngsville and a resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Romero passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 7:45 AM in a New Iberia nursing facility. She is survived by her son, Joseph C. J. C. Romero and his wife Jean of New Iberia; her sister, Nell Vaughn and her husband Allen of Loreauville; her grandchildren, Tommy Romero, Dale Barras, Tammy Dugas all of St. Martinville, Sidney Mae Mim Toups, Charlie Romero, Terri Courville, Stacy Daspit all of New Iberia and Leah Gonzales of Pearland, TX and her daughter-in-law, Agnes Romero of Loreauville. She was also survived by 17 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren and 6 great great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Romero; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Adam Gary; her son, Lazard Romero; her daughter, Eula Fremin; her sisters, Anna Mae Bergeron, Thelma Bourque, Ada Boutte and Doris Gary; her brothers, Doris Gary and Wilbert Gary; her daughter-in-law, Thelma Romero; 2 great grandchildren and her granddaughter that was raised by Mrs. Romero as her daughter, Geraldine Pookie Dugas. Pallbearers will be Kirk Toups, Charlie Romero, Tommy Romero, David Dugas, Jason Dugas and Mark Dugas.Honorary pallbearers will be Max and Jude Dugas.David Funeral Home of New Iberia, 1101 Trotter St. (337) 369-6336 is in charge of arrangements.
