Holland Andrew "Yank" Borel

Jeanerette- Funeral services for Mr. Holland Andrew Borel, age 87, will be held on Saturday April 5, 2014 at 2:00pm at David Funeral Home of Jeanerette with Reverend Wallis Millsaps to serve as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Loisel Cemetery. Visitation will begin Saturday April 5, 2014 at 9:00am until service time. A native and longtime resident of Jeanerette, "Yank" as he was affectionately known passed away on Saturday March 29, 2014 at 11:55am at a New Iberia hospital. Mr. Borel was the owner and operator of Borel Concrete Works for over 30 years. Mr. Borel was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. Later in life he enjoyed gardening, watching western movies and was an avid reader. Mr. Borel had three loves in his life: God, his family, and music. He was a godly man, his favorite book was the Bible and he would read it on a daily basis with his wife of 62 Years, Betty. Mr. Borel was a family man with a wonderful, unforgettable laugh. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. And then there was his passion, music. He loved music, George Beverly Shay was his favorite singer and he also enjoyed Big Band music like "Hey Good Lookin" and "Chattanooga Choo Choo". Mr. Borel will be sadly missed by his family and all that knew him. Mr. Borel is survived by his children, Debbie B. Gamble and husband Lawrence of Wantis, Tx., Isabelle B. Bourque and husband Eldridge Sr. of DeFuniak Springs, Fl., Mark A. Borel and wife Lanie of Baton Rouge, Verne J. Borel and wife Jan of Bluefield, Va., Martha B. Sauce of Granbury, Tx., Timothy S. Borel and wife Coleen of Loreauville, Daniel S. Borel and wife Whittie of Jeanerette; sisters, Marilyn Dykes and Raye Boutte both of Jeanerette, and Marion Bouligny and husband Vernon of New Iberia; brother-in-law, Gene Faulk Sr. of New Iberia; grandchildren, Eldridge M. Bourque, Jr., John W. Bourque, Amy Claire Gracia, Nicole Michelle Merritt-Croft, Tommy Merritt, Jeff Merritt, Chris Merritt, Carrie Gamble, Ariel Borel, Brennan Borel, Casey Peltier, Gina McClurkan, Jamie Borel, Jessica Mikulskis, Jay Sauce, Rachael Bufkin, Joshua Borel, Dani B. Leonards and Erin B. Verret; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Arlene Faulk Borel; parents, George and Martha Merceron Borel; brother, Raoul Borel; and sister, Thelma Olivier. Serving as pallbearers will be Eldridge M. Bourque Jr., Thomas Merritt, Brennan Borel, Jay Sauce, Joshua Borel, John W. Bourque, Jeffery Merritt, and Christopher Merritt. Honorary pallbearer will be Gene Faulk Sr. The family would like to thank everyone who cared for Mr. Borel, especially the 2nd floor nursing staff at Iberia Medical Center and the Maison Teche Nursing Home.
