New Iberia - Funeral services will be conducted for Hayward Joseph Bonin, Sr., 73, on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 11:00 AM at St. Peters Catholic Church with Father Gary Schexnayder and Father Charles Langlois officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM and resume on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 8:00 AM until the services. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:00 PM by the Men's Rosary Group and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Msgr. Langlois Assembly. A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Bonin died on Monday, April 28, 2014, at 7:35 PM at his residence. He was employed as the Purchasing Agent with Iberia Parish Government for 20 Years, was employed at the Iberia Parish Clerk of Court Office for 10 years and was a substitute teacher at Catholic High School for two years. He was a graduate of the first class at Catholic High School in 1958. He was a religion teacher with the RCIA Program for many years and was a Lecturer and Eucharistic Minister at St. Peters Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3425 and served as Grand Knight, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1208 and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus Msgr. Langlois Assembly. He was a member and Past President of the New Iberia Lions Club, a member of Lions Club International, a member and Past President of Ancient Order of Creole Gourmets, a graduate of Leadership Iberia Class III, Krewe of Andalusia, a past member of Mystic Krewe de Fou and a member of Catholic High School Panther Club. He also served as Past President of Organization of Parish Administrators Officials. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Joubert Bonin of New Iberia; his sons, Hayward Bonin, Jr. and his wife Nancy of New Iberia, John Lane Bonin and his wife Tressie of Youngsville, Guy M. Bonin and his wife Renee, Jeffery M. Bonin and his wife Chantel all of New Iberia; his daughter, Susan B. Bertrand and her husband Ricky of New Iberia; his grandchildren, Ryan Bonin, Renee Bonin both of New Iberia, Brittany Bonin of Omeda, Neb., Amber Bonin Isham, Allison Bonin, Breanne Bonin, Kylan Bonin, Lauren Bonin, Meagan Bonin, Lexi Bonin, Austin Bonin, Landon Romero, Jamie Bertrand, Emily Bertrand, Misty Romero and Hannah Touchet all of New Iberia; his great grandchildren, Destiny Gardney and Aiden Bonin both of Omaha, Neb.; his brother, Ronald "Boo" Bonin and his wife Gloria of New Iberia and his sister-in-law, Sally Bonin of New Iberia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude J. and Lillian Menard Bonin; his son, Dwight C. Bonin and his brothers, Roy Bonin and Rickey Bonin. Pallbearers will be Hayward Bonin, Jr., Guy Bonin, Ricky Bertrand, Kylan Bonin, John Bonin, Jeffery Bonin, Ryan Bonin and Jody Suire. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald "Boo" Bonin, Austin Bonin, Kevin Bonin and Landon Romero.
