Erath - A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Aldon "Shug "LeBlanc, 88, will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Melancon officiating. Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home of Erath on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 4:00PM until 9:00PM with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume on Friday, May 2, 2014 from 8:00AM until the time of the services. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Mausoleum. A native and lifelong resident of Erath, Mr. LeBlanc, well known by most as Mr. Shug, died at 7:48PM on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his residence. He was an active leader in the community and a proud and vocal US Navy veteran. His passion of serving others never ceased, prominently serving as President of the Board (1981-2005) and a integral part in founding The Bares Center, known today as Arc of Vermilion. Mr. Shug became the first King of the Krewe of Vermilion in 2005, an organization in which he was a founding member. With a welcoming heart for new comers he viewed this organization as socially blending everyone. Recognized for his ever active role in the community, he and his wife, Belva were inducted as Living Legends at the Acadian Museum of Erath in 2006 for their service to The Arc of Vermilion. A successful entrepreneur and businessman, Mr. Shug, worked in hardware and repair for most of his adult life retiring in 1990 from the LeBlanc and Theriot Hardware Store he eventually came to own and operate. Never being one to sit down for long, Shug tried his hand at real estate at one point owning and managing in excess of 22 personally owned rental properties. Mr. LeBlanc honorably served from 1944 to 1946 as a Ship's Serviceman Third Class in the United States Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific with Amphibious Group One on board the USS Estes and USS Queens (APA 103) and with the Administration Military Command in San Diego California where he was discharged. His military awards include the WWII American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, WWII Victory Medal, WWII Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the Honorable WWII Service Pin. Mr. LeBlanc was an active 66 year member of Derouen-Moss American Legion Post 279 in Erath, serving three terms as Commander and an officer many times. He was a member of Frederick-Hebert VFW Post 4158 in Abbeville and an Honorary Life member of Our Lady of Lourdes Knights of Columbus Council 3872 in Erath. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Belva Comeaux LeBlanc of Erath; a son, Tommy LeBlanc and his wife Myra of Erath; two daughters, Betty LeBlanc Baudoin and her husband Bradley of Erath and Marla LeBlanc Gregg and her husband Russell of The Woodlands, TX; six grandchildren, Nannette Delcambre and her husband Kevin, Melody Theriot, Andrea Saunier and her husband Scottie, Megan Landry and her husband Ryan, Oliver W. Doolin and his wife Paula, and Thomas Clement LeBlanc; nine great grandchildren, Gabrielle Stanford, Taylor Stanford, Camille Delcambre, Emily Delcambre, Christopher Borel, Olivia Borel, Andre Saunier, Bradley John Baudoin, and Owen Landry; and two great great grandchildren, Brandon Craft and Cameron Craft. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Lucy Berger LeBlanc; two daughters, Susan Evans and Nannette Cecile Leblanc; a brother, Elmo LeBlanc; two sisters, Laura Mae Romero and Lillian Comeaux; and two grandchildren, Bradley John Baudoin,II and Brandon Cheramie. Serving as pallbearers will be Oliver Doolin, Thomas Clement LeBlanc, Taylor Stanford, Christopher Borel, Bradley John Baudoin, and Andre Saunier. The family would like to personally thank, Ida Landry, Geri Broussard, Sonia Landry, and Sarah Hebert for their loving care along with Hospice Compassus. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to the principles of Concepts of Care and the nursing staff for allowing Melody the opportunity to assist Nannette in care for their grandfather.
